Kerala's heavy monsoon rain, cool hills, and rich forest soil make it India's oldest and best-known spice coast. From the Cardamom Hills of Idukki to the pepper farms of Wayanad, this is where much of India's cardamom, black pepper, nutmeg, and mace still grow. The spices in Kerala that reach the big trading yards of Kochi pass through many hands before they are sold, so instead of buying from the Kerala spices market, we go straight to the hill farms, and every spice in this collection comes from there.

The extra sentence also does a job the original did not: it explains why buying from the farm matters, which is the brand's main argument against middleman spices.

Idukki: The Heart of Our Kerala Collection

Three of our spices come from the high-altitude district of Idukki, where cool weather, heavy rain, and shaded slopes give the pods and seeds more essential oil than lowland crops: Idukki Green Cardamom, the oil-rich elaichi grown in the Cardamom Hills, Idukki Shelled Nutmeg, a warm, sweet jaiphal for drinks and baking, and Idukki Mace, the amber-red javitri that wraps the same nutmeg fruit and carries a peppery edge of its own. In a spices market, these three usually pass through auction yards and wholesalers who grade, mix, and store them for months before they reach a shop shelf, and much of the aroma is lost along the way. Here, each one is cleaned and packed from a single Idukki harvest within weeks of picking, so when you buy Indian spices online from us, you get the estate's flavour, not the market's average.

From the Wayanad Pepper Country

Wayanad sits in the north of Kerala, where pepper vines climb through shaded plantations on the Western Ghats. Our Malabar Peppercorn is Wayanad black pepper, picked and sun-dried so the heat comes in layers: sharp first, then woody and slightly citrusy underneath. It is the pepper the Malabar coast has been known for since the spice trade began, and it is the backbone of every Kerala masala, from a simple meen curry to a Sunday beef fry. Most pepper sold at a spice shop is a blend of grades from different districts, ground months after harvest, which is why it tastes flat. Ours is whole, single-district, and packed soon after drying, so the oils are still in the corn when you crack it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Kerala spices distinct?

Kerala's high rainfall, cool hill weather, and shaded plantations help spices like cardamom and pepper build more essential oil, which means a stronger, longer-lasting aroma.

Are all your Kerala spices from Idukki?

No. Idukki gives us the cardamom, nutmeg, and mace, while our black pepper comes from Wayanad in the north of the state. Each district is known for the spice it does best.

Are nutmeg and mace from the same plant?

Yes. Nutmeg is the seed and mace is the red lacy covering around it. Our Idukki Shelled Nutmeg and Idukki Mace come from the same hills, and each is used differently in the kitchen.

Do you offer bulk orders for Kerala spices?

Yes. For bulk or wholesale orders, use our bulk order enquiry and our team will help you with amounts and pricing.

How should I store whole spices for freshness?

Keep them in a sealed container, away from sunlight and heat. Cardamom and pepper hold their aroma much longer whole than ground, so grind only what you need. This helps keep them fresh for longer.

Do you deliver across India?

Yes. You can order online and have your Kerala spices delivered across India.
